PARKINSON DISEASE
Parkinson disease is a neurological disorder. This disease was first mentioned by James Parkinson in 1871, which was termed as “the shaking palsy.” Many scientists are hoping to find a cure for this disease, which still remains a mystery.
Electrical impulses are passed through neurons in the brain. A chemical called dopamine is produced, which is responsible for muscle movement in the body. If this dopamine secreting cell wears out it results in Parkinson disease.
There are four types of conditions. Tremors, meaning shaky hands, legs and jaws, rigidity means inflexibility of hands and legs, bradykinesia meaning slow movement and finally weak balance. It could be easily diagnosed if any two of the symptoms are true and that too on one side of the body.
It is a not a hereditary disease as it does not move from one generation to another and it is not contagious too. It is of course chronic, as it advances with time.
Treatments vary from medicine to surgery. Brain surgery is used only as a last resort, only if patients do not respond to medicines. Currently, there is no perfect cure for Parkinson disease, but in future there is lot of hope as researches are working day in and out to fight this disease.
